ms Veendam: Overview
Holland America Line Review

Being built in 1996, the ms Veendam holds up to 1,350 passengers. This vessel will give you a sense of cruising in style. Since its creation, HAL has updated the ms Veendam twice already. Once was 2006 and then again in 2009. This shows that Holland America Line takes great pride in the ship thy are putting on the sea.

While on board you can’t miss the magnificent two-tiered Rotterdam Dining Room, which features a grand sweeping staircase. During the day enjoy your time on the main deck, which is made from teak and is wide enough for walking or just relaxing on the deck chairs. When you aren’t relaxing or in port, you can select from the other lounges and leisurely activities the ship provides.

Like most ships, expect to see a multi-generational crowd on board your cruise during summer time or while school is out for kids. During the other months, expect to see more adults and retirees.

ms Veendam: Dress Code
Holland America Line Review

As for the day time, Holland America Line wants you to be comfortable so pack clothes that you would like to wear while in port or relaxing on the ships teak wood deck. Clothes that fall into the comfortable category would be sun dresses, sports wear, shorts or swim suits. Holland America Line does ask that if you do use the pool, to please use a cover up while in the hallways going back and forth from your cabin.

In the evening during dinner, you will need to have 3 options of clothing available. HAL will give you an updated itinerary of the dinner schedule each day highlighting what the dress code will be. The three categories of dinner dress attire are as follows.

Casual Dinner Attire – Items for men may include slacks and a polo shirt, while women may wear a sun dress if desired.

Informal Dinner Attire – Men should be wearing a button up shirt, jacket and slacks. A tie is not needed for men, but they can wear one if they so desire to. Women may wear a pants suit or dress.

Formal Dinner Attire – The Holland America Line formal dinner nights bring a magnificent elegance on board. Men are to wear a suit and tie or a tuxedo if they wish to. Women should be wearing a gown or cocktail dress.

When you check in for your cruise, HAL will take a major credit card like American Express, Visa or MasterCard to link your on board account to. This is to simplify the process of paying for items on your cruise and you will settle the full charge bill at the end of the cruise. Your account will be charged $10 per person per day. This charge is to replace normal tipping that would occur when you eat. If you use wine or bar services a 15% charge will be added to your shipboard account. If you had amazing service or feel an extra tip would be suitable, you may do so if you feel it is appropriate.
